Spring Break Begins

We are on our way to North Carolina to visit Matt’s family for Spring Break.  While we were getting ready to leave on Friday, Sam asked if we were going to stop in Alabama to sleep.

Me:  “No, the farthest we could possibly get in Alabama is Tuscaloosa and Daddy refuses to stay in Tuscaloosa.”

Sam: “Why?”

Me:  “Because that is where the University of Alabama is.”

Sam:  “Alabama is diarrhea .”

In other news, Sam was the best sleeper the first night.  He is the only one that actually got any sleep.  Now I know why people drive at night!

In day two news, we had a little fun when we got to the hotel.  Katie thought my mascara was lip gloss.

The boys decided to play Angry Birds in real life.  We aren’t sure who came up with it but I love watching how their minds work.

Sam and Animal Blanket are the slingshot.

Sarah, at two months

Sarah has gotten so big!!  All of the eating problems are becoming a distant memory and I can happily say she is a fully nursing baby!  Bottles are now reserved for Church and any other times I might not be available.  It was so nice to be able to monitor her growth with a scale as we transitioned from bottles to nursing.  Her continued growth has been a huge answer to prayer.  In addition to being a great eater, she is a great burper.  She is loud!  She impressed a lady at the doctor’s office yesterday and it wasn’t even one of her best.  Someday she will be mad at me for writing this!

Sarah has a beautiful smile that she loves to show.  She isn’t a big fan of tummy time but enjoys it in small doses.  However, all that time on her back is producing a bit of the baby bald spot.  She loves to be held facing out.  As a result, she has some pretty amazing head control.

She had settled into a pretty decent nighttime routine.  She goes to sleep between 9:30 and 10:30 and will sleep until sometime between 1:30 and 3:30.  She did bless with me with six hours of sleep a few nights ago.  Her naps during the day are a little erratic but most days she cooperates and will take several hour or more long naps.  She has gone from being a snuggle bunny to preferring to be swaddled to sleep.  I miss the snuggle bunny but I appreciate being able to sleep (most of the time) in something other than an upright position.

Sarah’s measurements at her two month check-up were somewhat of a surprise to me.  I knew what her weight would be because of the home scale and I knew she was getting longer because I finally had to trade out the 0-3 month clothes for 6 month ones.  But nothing prepared me for this:

Weight:  10.9 lbs (50%)

Length: 24 1/8 in. (95%)

Head: 15 1/4 in. (50%)

She might not have been the biggest when she was born but she is certainly the biggest now.

Ride a Little Horsey

Mama Sue has taught each of the kids “Ride a Little Horsey”.  They all love it!  The other day Katie wanted to ride and Sam said she should do it on his legs.

(a phone picture was the best I could do at the time…darn!)

So sweet!  It has been so much fun watching Sam mature these last few months.

No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

As I was getting Katie ready to take a bath, David started screaming.  In our house that means Sam is bothering him so my instant reaction was “Sam, come here!”  Then he said “It wasn’t Sam.”  I looked up and saw blood.  I moved his hand and saw more blood.  And a deep cut in his eyebrow.

02-28 005

He hit the bed.  I knew it needed stitches but I didn’t know what to do.  I called Matt at work and told him David was going to need stitches and then I called the doctor to find out if we could go to urgent care or if we needed to go to the ER.  ER it was.  After he initially freaked out that he might have to get a shot, he calmed down and waited for Matt to come get him.  He grabbed a few things to play with for his ER wait and happily jumped in Matt’s car.

02-28 002

After a short wait, they numbed him up, wrapped him like a burrito to hold him still, gave him five stitches, and, most importantly, a grape popsicle.

02-28 003

We think that his stitches look like a caterpillar.  We are so thankful he is ok.02-28 004

Sam and Katie were concerned about David and they both prayed for his eye.  Sam was sweet to say “I care about David.”

While Matt and David were at the hospital, I told Sam there would be no more jumping on the bed.  He said “Why?”  Really?  He was right there when his brother got hurt.  Then a few hours later, Matt found David jumping on the couch.  A lesson learned? No.

I am so thankful David didn’t hit his eye. I am also thankful that it has taken 5 1/2 years before our first ER visit. I hope it is at least 5 1/2 years before the next one!

It’s Over

Life as we know it, that is.  This cute little thing…02-25 025

02-25 026

…figured out how to climb out of her crib and open her door.  So for four days straight, she didn’t have a nap.  She would come down the stairs, see me, smile and declare  “I got out of my’s bed and open door!!”  I laughed.  The she laughed.  I laughed harder.  How can you not?

I found the cage roll (aka doorknob covers) on Saturday during bath time when I went to get curlers for Katie’s hair.  Now everything is back to our “new” normal.  “New” being hitting the poor girl when we open the door because she has crawled out of the crib and fallen asleep next to the door when she finally figured out she can’t open the door and I am not coming to get her.

Oh, and she thinks the curlers are fun but won’t leave them in long enough to work.  Silly girl.

Ready, Set, Race!

Sam and David participated in the AWANA Grand Prix.  Since this was our first time to participate we had no idea how to make the car, so Matt took the boys to the workshop they had and some nice men helped cut and sand the cars.  The hardest part was convincing them that they really did have to wait 45 minutes in between the coats of paint.

Cubbies raced their cars first.  David’s car, the purple one, was a little slow.  Each Cubbie raced their car three times and they all received a ribbon at the end.

David’s race

Sam’s car did a little better but he didn’t place.  His was the red car.  In the first heat both of Sam’s front wheels fell off.  We knew the wheels weren’t staying in the axle cut out but we didn’t think they would fall out during the race.  During the pit stop, Matt was able to glue the wheels in and Sam didn’t have a problem the rest of the night.

Sam’s race

Our goal this year was just to figure out the process, check out the other cars and figure out how we can improve for next year.  The boys had a lot of fun but Sam was a little jealous that David got a ribbon for participating and he didn’t get anything.

It was nice to do something as a family.  The kids enjoyed the popcorn and sno-cones.

Katie sat almost all night next to the track eating her popcorn.

Sarah slept or ate.  Those are her favorite things to do.

Cuties!

Katie loves to peel cuties.  She peeled this one for me at lunch and it was the first time she separated the pieces without smashing them into orange juice first.  She made sure I ate each one.  Now if we could just get her to eat them!

2-22 006

2-22 007

She has such a servant’s heart.  When she is throwing a tantrum, I have found the best way to get it to stop is to ask her to help me do something and her attitude instantly changes to one of helpfulness.  I am so thankful for her.

2-22 008

Katie fell at the park yesterday and ended up biting her lip.  She has been saying all day “I have owie” and points to it.  She seems to be proud of her first battle scar.
